General Admission Requirements:

·         Academic: good high school graduation grades or equivalent academic study (see table below). Also the student  might be required to present a portfolio as part of their  application documents 

·         Age: students are usually 18 – 28  years old

·         Experience: relevant work experience (for mature students only)

Entrance requirements will vary but are set after consideration of each applicant’s academic background and achievements and all other relevant experience. A typical offer to someone seeking entry to the programme is:

 

1.         The Institute recognizes the results of all Malaysian Public Examinations and Equivalents that are approved by the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia.  The Malaysian public examinations considered for entry are as follows:

 

§  Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM or Malaysian Certificate of Education) as equivalent to the GCE at O-level.

 

§  Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM or Malaysian Higher Certificate of Education) as equivalent to the GCE at A-level.

 

§  Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) taken by students from independent Chinese secondary schools in Malaysia for entrance into local private universities, university colleges and foreign universities.

 

2.        The minimum entry requirement for Diploma in Opticianry is 3 SPM credits, or equivalent, which include Science, Mathematics and English, and for local students, a pass in Malay Language.

 

3.        Equivalency of foreign academic qualifications are checked against the “List of foreign academic qualifications for secondary schools and their equivalents in Malaysia” published by MQA.
